The leadership composition of a community
Formal leader:- these are the first citizens in the community who are officially elected nominated or appointed to rule the community for instance the bale, Oba, Emirs, Chiefs, Igwe, Ezes etc
Informal leaders: - these- are leaders who are unofficially installed but nominated and recognized by the community member to lead them in their day-to-day activities.
Officially opinion leaders: - These are the elders and or religious representative groups in the community e.g. pastor, Bishops, Imam, etc,
unofficial opinion leaders,
Representative of the poor and disadvantage.
Representative of the youths and the aged groups,
Representative of the women Association
Cultural Practices That Are Harmful to Health:
Very Hot bath following child birth
Early marriage/teenage pregnancy
Violence against women such as rape
Child abuse
Food taboo
Deep perinea cut
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
Any form of scarification
Forced feeding
Potassium pap (kunnun kanwa)
Abrupt weaning
Refusal of medical treatment
Cutting the umbilical cord with unhygienic object and dressing with cow dung.
Denying children protein food e.g. egg. meat, fish
Drinking of blue and lime to prevent pregnancy
Cultural Practices That Are Harmless/Helpful to Health
Prolonged breast feeding,
Sexual abstinence to space child-birth
Intake of lots of pap and fluids to improve the flow breast milk.
Washing the breast before breastfeeding the baby
Washing of face and chewing sticks first thing in the morning before exchanging greetings.
Male circumcision which prevent phiomsis and paraphiomsis
Giving breast feeding mothers special diet(balanced diet).
