CHAPTER 28: BASIC EMERGENCY DRUGS TO KNOW (AWARENESS ONLY – NOT FOR ADMINISTRATION) 

Auxiliary nurses should know the names, uses, and where to find the emergency drugs in case they are asked to fetch or prepare them under supervision.

Adrenaline (Epinephrine) 

For anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest 

Comes in ampoules, usually 1:1000 

Salbutamol Inhaler/Nebulizer 

Asthma attacks 

Relieves bronchospasm 

Glucose IV or Dextrose 

Hypoglycemia 

For low blood sugar emergencies 

Diazepam 

Seizure control 

Used as rectal or IV form 

Paracetamol Injection 

High fever or pain 

Must be given with correct dosage 

Hydrocortisone 

Allergic reaction/inflammation 

IV or IM form 

IV Fluids (Normal Saline, Dextrose) 

Dehydration, shock
