MEDICAL SHORT HAND

Medical shorthand indicates the dosage frequency e.g 98h     every 8hours or 8hourly, 93d     

Every 3 days.

Frequency can also be expressed as the number of times per 24hr/daily. Eg 

q – every hour  

 qhs/ nocte – every night

qd – every day

bid/b.d – twice a day

tid / tds – three times a day

qid/qds – four times a day

stat/statum – immediately

po – orally

gtt/gutt – drops

prn – as needed/as necessary

qs – quantity sufficient          

1/7 – 1 day

3/7 – 3 days

2/52 – 2 weeks

1/12 – 1 month
