GENERIC NAME AND BRAND NAME

Generic names can be defined as chemical names of drug. It can also be defined as the chemical make up of a drug rather than the advertised brand name under which the drug is sold. e.g Diazepam is an example of chemical or generic name however. The trade or brand name is valium, razepam.

DRUG LEGISTETION AND SAFETY

Pharmacovigilance or Drug Safety: is the pharmacological science relating to the collection, detection, assessment, monitoring and prevention of adverse effects of any drug. In other words, in the practice of monitoring the effects of medical drugs after they have been licensed for use, especially in order to indentify and evaluate previously unreported adverse reaction.

DRUG LEGISLATION: These are laws that governs the use of drugs

AGENCIES FOR DRUG LEGISLATION

There are agencies for legislation in Nigeria such as National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Nation Agency for Food and Drugs Administration Control (NAFDAC).

REQUIRMENT FOR APPROVED DRUGS

An approved drug should satisfy the following requirements

1. It must have efficacy and safety

2. It must have minimal side effects

3. It should not injure the host tissues

4. It should have little or nor resistance.
